Here is a shot from this past spring of a juvenile "Dirty Bird" that was shot thru the trees and branches. Note the dark splotches in the tail and on the beak. This bird is going thru the "change", literally, from the dark colored to the traditional white headed and white tailed adult.

It seems that Hiram and Julia have been returning to the field near the nest 3-4 times a week late in the afternoon.  Sometimes it may be either one or the other, but at least they havent left the country.  According to Mr. Garland Whitten, late in the eveninig, about 7-8:30 p.m., they fly in from the river, sometimes below the treeline,  on the extreme left side of Cloud Field, then across the road to one of the old oaks that has some dead branches.  I visited this past weekend, but they must have known I was coming and stayed away.  Thanks again to Mr. Whitten for his excellent reporting.

I seem to have a thing for sequencial shots and the one below (click here for a view) is from this spring when Julia left her perch on one of the oaks and lept into the air. The sequence is from right to left and only took a few seconds.

July 4 2010

Happy Fourth of July to everyone.  I hope everyone appreciates the freedoms that have been wroght by others both past and present and will remember to say "Thanks" to all who have give of themselves to that end....our freedom.  Do not take it lightly, do not ever let it go. Do not let others take it away.  The eagle is a fitting symbol of that freedom and I am proud to be associated with the American Bald Eagles of Shiloh.

I am starting a new blog for 2010 due to some nasty code language that crept into my Blog page and I felt it was easier to satart a new on than repair the old one. The old one which is the events of Shiloheagles from January 1 2010 until present can still be viewed by clicking on 2010 Blog Blog 1.  I hope it will still work.

I have been fortunate to have received several reports that Hiram and Julia remain in the area of Shiloh Park.  They have been spotted up and down the river and in the afternoons, arount the trees opposite the nest.  Hiram seems to prefer the old dead limbs in the tops of the old oaks across from Cloud Field betwee th fork in the road..  He may be seen there several days a week although not every evening.  My thanks to Mr. Garland Whitten for his precise accurate reporting.

We will have more on this page including photos soon. Thanks - Jay
